FAWEZA Advances Bridging Course for Marginalized Youth

News & Blog

FAWEZA working with Six universities from both private and public held its first Task Force Meetings on the Bridging Course from 8-9th December 2024, supported by Mastercard Foundation, the meeting brought together educators, university leaders, and technical experts, all focused on one key goal: helping young people, especially girls and boys from vulnerable backgrounds, gain the skills and support they need to enter STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) programs at Zambian universities.

During the meetings, participants worked hard to shape a clear roadmap for developing the curriculum and drafted a framework to help students transition smoothly into STEM studies. They also discussed key milestones for the program’s success and agreed on the next steps to ensure the course remains fair, inclusive, and accessible to those who need it most.

The Task Force Committee leading this effort has already made strong progress by holding planning meetings, adopting Terms of Reference, setting up a communication plan, and hiring a consultant who is now conducting research to inform the program. FAWEZA has also engaged Vice Chancellors from six leading universities both public and private to secure their backing and ensure the program aligns with academic requirements and career pathways.

FAWEZA Board Chairperson, Professor Enala Mwase Tembo, emphasized that this work is about more than just creating another education program it’s about opening doors and creating real opportunities for young people to thrive in today’s fast-changing world. With the Mastercard Foundation’s partnership, FAWEZA is determined to make education a powerful tool for empowerment and social change.
