Girls Raise Their Voices at Choma Symposium

News & Blog

In celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child, FAWEZA, through its Break Free Program, hosted a vibrant Girls’ Symposium in Choma District, Southern Province.

The event brought together 30 girls from 15 schools across Kazungula, Kalomo, and Monze districts — all part of the Break Free Project. It created a safe space for girls to openly share the challenges they face, including barriers to education, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR).

Stakeholders from Ministry of health, Education, local media, and community leadership listened attentively, with many moved to pledge concrete action in response to the girls’ appeals.

The day’s discussions underscored the urgent need for stronger support systems and inclusive policies to ensure girls are safe, heard, and given equal opportunities to thrive.
