PRESS STATEMENT BY THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF FAWEZA, COSTERN KANCHELE, ON THE COMMEMORATION OF WORLD LITERACY DAY, 8TH SEPTEMBER 2025 UNDER THE THEME: PROMOTING LITERACY IN THE DIGITAL ERA
8th September 2025-Lusaka-Today, the Forum for African Women Educationalists of Zambia (FAWEZA) proudly joins the global community in commemorating World Literacy Day 2025 under the theme “Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era.”
Literacy is the foundation of lifelong learning and a critical tool for social and economic empowerment. In Zambia, despite notable progress, many vulnerable children and young people particularly girls and women still face barriers to accessing quality education. As we enter the digital era, these challenges are further compounded by limited access to technology and digital skills, widening the gap between those who can fully participate in the knowledge economy and those who cannot.
