ANNOUNCEMENT OF SUCCESSFUL PARTICIPANTS FOR THE 2025 MASTERCARD FOUNDATION BURSARY SUPPORT PROGRAMME – COHORT 2

News & Blog

3RD July 2025 – The Forum for African Women Educationalists of Zambia (FAWEZA), in partnership with FAWE Africa and the Mastercard Foundation, is pleased to announce the successful selection of 200 vulnerable young people to undertake STEM courses in TVET partner institutions under the 2025 Mastercard Foundation Bursary Support Programme – Cohort 2.

This year’s cohort includes 160 females and 40 males, among whom 11 are persons with disabilities and 15 refugees. This composition reflects FAWEZA’s continued commitment to advancing inclusive and gender-responsive education by reaching learners from marginalised backgrounds who are often excluded from accessing and completing tertiary education. This is FAWEZA’s contribution towards Zambia’s commitment to tertiary education as articulated through various policy documents, including the National Education Policy (1996), Vision 2030, and the Eighth National Development Plan (8NDP).

FAWEZA congratulates the selected beneficiaries and encouraged them to embrace the opportunity with dedication and a strong sense of responsibility, as the bursary support is not only a financial investment, but also a pathway to personal transformation, academic excellence, and community impact.

The bursary programme comes with a comprehensive support package designed to ensure student success such as: tuition fees, accommodation, meals, learning materials including books and digital tools, a monthly upkeep allowance, psychosocial support, mentorship, life skills training through TUSEME Clubs (Speak out), and career development support. FAWEZA recognises that to fully empower young people, support must go beyond access it must also include retention and successful transition into the world of work.

FAWEZA urges all selected participants to remain focused and committed throughout their academic journey noting that the opportunity given is not just for the participants benefit, but also for the betterment of their families, communities, and the nation as they represent the hopes of many other young people who still face barriers to education.

As an organisation that has championed the education of girls and vulnerable learners for over two decades, FAWEZA remains dedicated to removing systemic barriers and expanding opportunities that enable young people, especially girls, to realise their full potential.

Once again, we extend our warmest congratulations to the Cohort 2 participants. We look forward to seeing them excel and lead the youth transformation we all wish to see in Zambia and beyond.
